Robert Indiana

1928

Robert Indiana (1928–2018) was an American artist who became internationally known as a key figure in Pop Art. He worked as a painter, sculptor, and graphic artist, developing a bold, graphic visual language that is instantly recognizable.

Indiana’s work often employs bright colors, clear shapes, and words or numbers. With these seemingly simple means, he explored major themes such as love, identity, the American Dream, and the influence of mass media and advertising on daily life.

His most famous work, LOVE, became an iconic image reproduced and recognized worldwide. Yet behind its clear design often lies a critical and personal undertone.
